my kicks were cut to hell by a PO, but my door panels were left clean. For this i am supergrateful, even tho the kicks were absolutley bitchered to the point where a hole was hammered into the backside that opened into the wheel wells on both sides. I can see daylight on the ground in fact through the holes in the kicks. This is MUCH more preferable than the cut doorpanels tho. For simple resale value purposes. If Resale isnt your thing, then just value might guide you. clean doorpanelvinyl is just good.

There are ways to put in speakers that dont even mess with the kicks either. Like specially constructed enclosures that will attach TO the kicks instead of butchering them. In any event, have fun and dont cut nothing unless ya has to.
