This may sound crazy, but I would try and use a set of visegrips. The idea would be to grip the nut and apply enough force where as you turn the visegrips, it might catch a decent thread or two. At worse, you will be able to back off the nut.

BTW, the nut is a fine thread. When I did the valve adjustment on the my current '02 for the 1st time, I had 2 out of 8 with stripped threads.
