Wiring harness question - shrouded or not? (archive)

Hello all,

After seeing a bunch of older BMW's today (three '02's and a '75 530i) I'm not entirely sure if the wiring harness on my beleagured '74 has been altered by a previous owner or not. My question concerns the presence of seemingly miles of flexible black plastic wiring shrouds or covers that encase all visible portions of the wiring harness underhood. Further, around and atop the nosepanel the harness is held in place not by the simple black plastic clips that press into the provided holes, but rather with a series of white nylon circular clips that are screwed on fast with what appears to be OEM hardware. The plot thickens in that I've viewed photos posted on the board of later tii models subjected to very meticulous restorations which display wiring harnesses that seem nearly identical in overall theme to my own. I'd really like to clean this up, but am not certain what is right. Comments anyone? Any insight appreciated.
