Over the w/e my 17-year-old son and I got his '68 1602 idling. Now that might not be too exciting, but I brought it home a few months ago from a salvage yard, where they were getting ready to crush it. I told my son I'd give it to him as a project car, but he wouldn't let me just give it to him, since I had paid $200 for it. But! When I offered it to him for one dollar, he thought that was a deal he couldn't pass up. We couldn't even turn the crank when we first had it. I don't think it had been driven in four or five years. Thank God for Marvel Mystery Oil! Further inspection revealed the timing chain guide was in the oil pan, but we got it to turn and have been working weekends until this last Sunday when she ran and idled. Another one saved! Hooray for our side. The body's in good shape, brake pads are good and working; wipers work on both speeds; lights work; we've got a complete/new carpet set to put in; and it's been a great father/son experience. I've been restoring another 1602 with my 15-year-old daughter and that's been even more rewarding. (We have four 1602's and two of them have consecutive VINS, too, and know where two more are we can score.) It's a disease, I know... but what a great disease to have.
