Don't know if the following will help or not -

In looking at my old factory manual, it appears there are 2 basic clutch types (diaphram and coil spring type), each of which has it's own unique throw-out bearing (completely different sizes). From the descriptions, it sounds like the diaphram pressure plate superceeded the spring type sometime in model years 68 / 69.

The manual also shows two different t-o bearings for the diaphram type clutch, and says to replace early "non self centering" t-o bearings with the later self centering type anytime a t-o bearing needs to be replaced. The self centering type is slightly longer overall, but does interchange.

So far as I can tell, there's no variation in flywheel design or pressure plate to flywheel mounting between the two types, so presumably all early (pre '74) flywheels will accept all 228 mm clutch pressure plates - anybody out there got further info on this aspect of the question????
