The amp on my 87IS (no longer own it) was in the trunk on the driver's side. Peel back the trunk liner to expose. I don't believe the unit is integrated into the theft system. Rather, the flashing light alerts the would be thief that the unit requires a code to repower. I did not replace my unit so I don't know how much of a job you are looking at. Hope this helps!

: Does anyone know anything about the stock stereos that came in the '87 models?

: The head unit in my 325 is starting to crackle and and a few of the speakers need replacing. It is a standard stereo cassette unit with AM/FM & a weatherband (which doesn't work). It appears that the head unit is integrated somehow into the theft system but aside from the flashing red light the relationship escaps me. I am also wondering if the head unit has an external amp somewhere as the fader is separate from the head unit. I guess I am just looking for advice from anyone who has replaces these units and what I am getting myself into by attempting to replace it.

: Any advice will be helpful.

: Regards,

: Pete
