: hey, i'm new to this message board, so excuse my ignorance. i want to buy a used M3, preferrably an EvoIII but am not all that familiar with the ins and outs of the car itself. can anyone help with a list of what an M3's typical problems are with the 2.5L configuration?

if you live in the US you can't get an evo III (or an evo II for that matter), but you can go aftermarket and get the 250hp 2.5L engine

what should i look for concerning wear and tear, as opposed to abuse?

follow the link to the best E30 M3 site i have seen...a good E30 M3 is VERY hard to find...i know that are lots of places you want to look at but one of the biggest problems is the front subframe mounts (check out the premier issuse of Bimmer)

and please explain the type of gearbox on the car.

huh? see the website if it has that info
