This might shed some light...

I order my E46 328i on Sept 12.

The dealer changed one of his allotted October builds to suit my options.

At the time he said I should get the car in late October.

On about Sept 29 the car moved into a ready to build state. i.e. no changed to the order.

On Oct 5, I called my dealer and asked him if he
could add the Sport package. Although, it was
difficult, he call the factory and convinced them
to do it. However, this would push the build date
to the end of October. So I can expect the car in
early November....

Seems pretty reasonable...

The latest news...My car was built on 10/16 (or was it 10/21) and is waiting for a boat.

I've read on the board that a boat left Nov 4 or
so for New Jersey (I live in Boston).

I'm trying to confirm with my dealer that my car is on that boat!!!

Anxoiusly waiting

Hope this helps =) But then again it may not??

: Well, I doubt it - my dealer seemed positive that
: my car would be built this week or next.

: Also, I'm pretty sure that it works this way: each dealer gets several "build slots". They can fill them any way the want until a week or two before the actual build date of the car, at which point it's commited to metal and there is no turing back. So - when you ordered, your dealer may had
: a slot open closer in than mine did.

: I say this because one of the dealers I spoke to (who would not discount a 323i AT ALL, by the way) said that he had one build slot coming up really fast and that if I paid full list he'd give me that slot - my car would be on the boat the last week of October (This was around the last week of September). I declined.

: Can anyone confirm if the above is indeed the way the process indeed works?

: : My dealer just informed me that my E46 is on the boat and on it's way over!
: : Yeehaa!
: : From what they can tell I should be getting delivery about the 1st week of December. This is about 2 weeks AHEAD of what they have been telling me.
: : Jeff, you may want to double-check and see if yours is on the same boat...

: : 328i, Titanium/Grey Leather, Premium 2, HK, CD Changer, Xenon
