By the time CDMA becomes useful (at least 5 years from now) Nokia will have a 6100 series phone that supports it (6180). Right now CDMA is way underdeveloped; I tried it and got so many dropped calls and out of range areas it's sickening (Sprint PCS). I'm a very happy AT&T Digital PCS customer now (TDMA/AMPS on Nokia 6160). --Andi

: : AFAIK the cellphones BMW offers are analog-only junk. BMW has a really great idea with the buttons for the phone on the steering wheel but geez it's really stupid to make you get an analog phone that has short battery life and expensive airtime.

: : I have a Nokia 6160 dual-band (1900/800MHz) dual-mode (digital at both frequencies, analog at 800Mhz) cellular phone and it's an EXCELLENT phone. I also have the $150 Nokia CARK-91 handsfree car kit installed installed in my Maxima. What's great about the CARK-91 is that it works with not only the TDMA 6160 but also with the GSM 6110 and 6190, so you can switch phones/providers and as long as you get another Nokia 6100 series phone, you're set.

: : I really think BMW should collaborate with Nokia and offer support for the Nokia 6100 series phones from the factory. Hell, feel free to charge us $500 for the $150 Nokia kit, if you customize it to work with the steering wheel buttons I'm happy..

: : : Wanted to know your option of the cell phone option. I'm ordering a 99' 328i and wanted to know if it's worth it. Can third party cell phones be installed intead?
