: Just curious, what are the procedures for breaking into new Bimmers? Thanks!

I've been reading in alt.autos.bmw that since new bimmers now come with BMW's synthetic that the breakin period is much longer than the old traditional 1000mi. I've heard varying lengths from 2000 to as much as 5000.

Since my shiny new 323i isn't even built yet, I don't have an owners manual to refer to. Can someone who does have post what BMW recommends?

BTW, apparently some dealers are stating that *no* breakin period is needed. Crazy, I say, but who am I to really know: I don't design BMW engines for a living.
