This subject had come up on other car makes' message boards. the following info comes from the Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS message board...many owners recommend varying the way you drive, to get the engine used to the harsh driving we do. you don't want to go at one speed for a long amount of time, and don't keep the rev's low, either. going on a long road trip isn't a good idea, but if it's mixed up, like going 65 mph for awhile, then slow down, then get close to the rpm's BMW said to stay below, it should be alright. i'm at 15,000 (1 yr old RS) and varied the driving and i think it was better for the engine. i only went over the recommended max rpm's a few times, too. also, they mentioned something about the type of oil-may be synthetic-for the first 1000 miles (subaru recommends an oil change at this time, to drain out the metal shavings from wear). does bmw recommend this too? if you want the exact message, i can find it for you. hope this helps...chris
