First - I've never heard of this problem occuring in any car ever, let alone an E46. Has anyone else?
I do think that we all know (or *should* know) that we are basically guinnea pigs in buying the first batch of E46's. There are bound to be bugs to be worked out in both the design and new assembly line (it can't be easy learning to put together a new car as complex as a BMW with it's myriad of safty systems and computer controlled brakes/traction).
I must admit, though, that the thought of gas spraying all over the engine bay is a wee bit frightening.
Tony - what was the tip off that this had happened? The smell of gas, or did the car stall? (I can only presume that the failure was evident nearly immediately after it happened).
: Does anyone know of fuel injector failures on the new 323? One of the injectors on my car (425 miles) failed this week causing high pressure fuel to spray all over the engine. The gas then began vaporizing on the engine and exhaust. Lucky for me there wasn't a spark. The dealer picked up the car and determined it was a defective injector (which had to be ordered). Three days later I have the car back and all seems well, and the stench of gas is finally out of the interior. This is not what I would expected from my first new BMW.
