I have a E30 which I use for winter.

Last year I used Pirelli P190s. These were good
in snow and not bad in dry handling. But they
only lasted one year and when they were
towards the end of their life they were miserable
to drive on - much shaking and caused a pull to
the left. I thought I needed some front end work,
but then...

I just put on Michelin XM+S Alpins. Wow what
a great ride they provide - very quiet and smooth.
Hey I don't need a front end job anymore! But they
haven't seen much snow yet. They sacrifice dry
handling but oh well it's just to get me to the
slopes for the winter. Consumer reports just rated
them the best all-around winter tire. Ya, I know,
CR are a bunch of old guys who like Buicks.
