I suspect that this percieved lack of "zip" may just be due to the fact that the engine isn't broken in yet. I've read a couple of reports from 323i owners who have said that the car's response is noticibly improving as it breaks in.
: I understand from what I've read here that most everyone finds the 323 (E-46) to be somewhat lacking in initial acceleration, especially in first gear. Does the engine have a true lack of spark from a dead stop or is everyone just being overly critical? I haven't had an opportunity to drive a 323 but have driven the 328 and wasn't really impressed with its acceleration, to tell the truth. I mean is felt strong, but not exceptionally fast. Also, does the 323 have a lag in all the other phases of acceleration (much like my GS-R) or does it feel like it's in the power band all the time?
: Please offer your insights, all you that have driven a new 323 E-46.
: (No offense, but please not another reprint of the comparision test.)
