Now, (1998 and on) the software for the service lights just uses your gas mileage as the criteria for oil change intervals. I.E. If you get better mileage your intervals are longer and visa-versa. They found it is less complex and yields the same results. This topic was discussed at the Unofficial E36 Home Page in a letter from BMW.


: well, i have 5000 miles on my 98 528 sport with 2 bars left..
: basically, the car takes a bunch of factors (frequency of driving,temp,driving style etc..)
: that determine when each green bar is removed..
: i live in Mass and expect all bars to be out by 6000 miles..
: previously in my 93 325is, i could have drove 7700 miles before all lights were out..
: as for an oil change-its your call but for oil changes that are considered covered by scheduled maintenance, you have to wait til those lights are gone.
