You could have purchased the unit for $500 from Quality Imports and installed it yourself in 15 minutes. Even so, BMW make a ton off the CD changer, which is essentially a Mexican manufactured Alpine unit. If it weren't for the i-Bus wiring on the Bimmer, you could buy one at Best Buy or Circuit City for $225.

If it makes you feel good to look at the situation the way you do, fine. But it's really more about how badly you did/did not get gouged.

I paid $200 for the in dash unit, kept the stock head unit, and installed an after market amp and 8 new speakers. Granted, I spent more, but everything I put in I can take out when I'm ready to sell the car. You won't have any use whatever for the CD changer, and doubt you'll get much if anything for the changer when you sell or trade.

: My dealer settled for a free CD changer a knocked down a couple hundreds off MSRP. I'm leasing and cannot get an aftermarket unit or install things myself.
: Even though I didn't get the best price for the car, it works out well for both dealer and me:
: - I save over $1,200 $895 for the unit, +tax, +install (at least $200).
: - Dealer - he still makes alot on the car, but he doesn't charge himself $200 for installation or $895 for the unit...
