CLK is a nice car, pretty recent too compared with the older body style of the M3, but they really are two completely different cars. The M3 is a razor's edge sports car in sedan/coupe disguise. Handles and goes like a dream, but a little stiff. The CLK is more of a sport/touring, softer and more comfortable. Also if you drive in lots of traffic, an automatic in either would be nice, but an automatic fits the CLK better. Lastly, the M3 is quite a bit less expensive than the nearest comparable CLK (the 430).
