: Is it worth getting an automatic on the 323 or 328, or should I stick with a manual? Any experiences with driving an automatic on the E46?

Having driven both types, I would not hesitate to get either manual or auto with a 3 series depending on your driving interests. If your vehicle useage prohibits manuals or a family member is not capable to using it, you can still get much enjoyment out of the "manual" shifting options of the auto. It's not quite as crisp as the best of the "tiptronic" types, but it is fine.
