: Hello 323 Owners,

: I'm nearing to be in the market for my first new car and would like to find the best value out there and was wondering if any of you test drove any Passats before deciding to by your BMW? And how comparably fun each car is to drive? and any other considerations or opinions would be appreciated? Thank you.

Boy did you hit a nerve! I had an order placed for a 99 Passat GLX Syncro. I waited 4 months with the production date being changed constantly for a myriad of reasons. After 4 months, vw decided that they could make more money selling the Syncro (AWD) versions in Europe, so they cancelled that model for the US. I was infuriated. I stormed into the dealer, and picked up my deposit. They are nice cars. I drove the 1.8t, and the 2.8 liter, TipTronic, and manual, leather and cloth, etc. The Passat was a nice driving car. But it DID remind me of my wife's Taurus. I would recommend taking John's advice. Take a couple of hours one Saturday, and drive them both. That should help you out tremendously.
