I tried AutobyTel and based on another posting here I also tried Autopedia (autopedia.com).

The AutoByTel dealer I was referred to was kind of a jerk.
He wouldn't give me a quote over the phone (what happened to the "ByTel" part of the name?) or by fax and couldn't tell me when I could expect delivery until he had an order from me. When I went in to talk to him, he said it takes 10 minutes to do a "locate" but wouldn't do it until I gave him a deposit. He also wouldn't tell me what his allocation was if I needed to special order it.

The Autopedia dealer I was referred to got back to me in less than a day with a car close to what I wanted, told me when it was coming in and quoted a price $500 less than the Autopedia price and left me detailed voice mail. I'm getting the car from this dealer.

Autobytel: 3
Autopedia: 9

: Hi,

: Just want to conduct a small survey.
: Any of you guys have tried the online buying service ?

: If yes, please post what you use (or tried to use) and please indicate the rating (1-10), 10 being superb.

: Thanks

: Pete
