I thought I had accidently reposted my message on the same board. But, alas, someone else has the same concerns as I do!
Hey John (cool..same name as mine), here is what I learned since the last post...
1. To get into second, I now use both hands to jam it into gear. The dealer said to ignore that grinding noise, that it's just the idler gear winding down and is essentially harmless. Apparently BMW didn't put synchronizers on 2nd gear in the M3 (whatever those are).
2. I put brake fluid in the engine by accident. My friend said not to worry, that brake fluid has a high boiling point and tends to absorb moisture so it may actually do some good for the engine. I'm going to go with all DOT 5 brake fluid in the engine during the next oil change (at 30,000 miles). I'll give you guys a report next time!
3. My engine now makes a low rumbling noise and a pinging noise now. I think it is because I forgot to hold the rpm to 9500 in first gear last week. So I think my valves are clogged now. I'm going to try 12000 rpm this week. That should do the trick.
I'm having some trouble getting into first gear now, though, but I'm hoping a few extra days of wrist curls at the gym will solve that problem.
4. I'm going to wax my baby this week! The auto guy at Wal-mart says I should a liberal amount of rubbing compound followed by a nice Carnuba wax. I even bought one of those fancy orbital buffers, so I guess I'm a true detailer now!
Thanks for all your help!
