323 5speed vs. 328 auto whats faster? (archive)

I just ordered a 323i w/sport package and i realy cant wait to get it! Going through different official and unoficcial figures for 0-60 I still can't figure it out for sure. Maybe somebody raced them against each other or knows for sure? And another thing: since sport package loweres the car a bit and has better tires and stiffer suspension, will that make it go faster or is it just cosmetics?
P.S. Anybody knows about perfomance chips for 2.5 liter E46 or other relatively cheap ways to bring hp up?
