Just get out there and drive both (or three) cars, then decide. It's not like you're shopping for an economy sedan, you're looking for performance. And that's the only thing that can only be found out during an extensive test-drive.

I spent over a year on the A4 side, starting when it was just a Jason Taylor's personal web site that came free with the dialup account, arguing how great A4 looked and how cool the technology was. Then, I went and test drove them both. And, sorry, nothing could help the A4: not space-age glass on the headlights, not 5-speed automatic with tiptronic, not even quattro. The 328i was just a better car. And I bought the 328.

For me, an A4 for was a compromise, a very well executed one, but still just an attempt to fit two very different things in the same car: luxury and performance. If I wanted luxury, I would buy myself a Lexus (I actually have one ;), if I wanted performance, I would buy, well, a BMW. You can't have both, you have to sacrifice.
