I don't know about E46s but on 98 E36s you just pull it straight off** but...I've talked with people who were unhappy with meyal shift knobs because they were always cold. They ended up putting the leather knob back on.

: Anyone know how to get the shift knob off a 99 3-series? I tries just pulling and it felt like I was going to break the lever off. I got a sweet aluminum shift knob for Xmas! Help! email or mssge me here... thanks!
