Having driven both in manual, I think the 323i has a deeper and somewhat stiffer clutch (but already light when compared to E36s). Shift throw is about the same, but shift gate action is more precise on the BMW, generally a stronger in-gear feeling you'll enjoy being able to almost diagonally shift from 4th to 5th without having to pass thru the neutral position. BTW the 323 is a lot more powerful even though 1.8T is not bad for a 4-cylinder.
