: Although I live in the States, I'm visiting family in Canada this Christmas, and I went down to the local BMW dealer to obtain pricing information.

: It is *significantly* cheaper to buy a BMW in Canada than in the U.S. This is because of the cheap Canadian dollar (worth about 64.5 cents US) and because Canadian prices have not been raised, in spite of the falling dollar.

: For example, the base price of a 328i Sedan is $44,900 CDN, which is equivalent to US$28,960. Compare this to $33,400 for the MSRP of the US car. The only difference appears to be that the US car has electric seats standard.

: I specced out a completely loaded 328i ($44,900) with Sport Package 3 ($7,600) which includes Leather Multi-Function Steering Wheel with Cruise Control, 16" Alloy Wheels, Sport Seats, Sports Suspension, Glass Sunroof, Hi-Fi Stereo System, Through Load with Ski Bag, Heated Seats, Montana Leather, Fog Lights, Wood Trim Myrtle. That is $52,500 CDN, equivalent to $US 33,862. A similarly specced US car costs just over $US 40,000 ! Yeeikes!

: Has anyone imported a brand new Canadian car into the US? A Canadian dealer cannot sell directly to a US resident, but there are many ways around this. I'm thinking of buying via Canada for my next car.

: My current car, a 1995 325is, is actually a Canadian car (since I used to live in Canada, and moved to the US in 1996), and all I had to do to bring it over was get the speedometer changes from kph to mph. The car was over a year old at the time.
