This is true for Fords, and Chevys, but not for BMWs. The number of cars that a BMW dealer gets a year pretty much prohibits them from selling at invoice. I lucked out, and the stars aligned with the moon, and I ordered at exactly the right time to get my 3.04% over deal. The salesman told me that normally they wouldn't even consider my deal, but it was at a "bad time of the year for their dealership". He says that sales a S-L-O-W during January and February, and they still have a quota to meet, so they figured they could take a little less to move a car.

I got the "We don't get enough cars to sell them for that price" response from 3 or 4 dealers, so I believe it. (When I was shopping my deal around).
