I wondered that as well when I bought my car a while ago. Then when you say "No thanks, I'll get a portable phone." the dealer shows you the dire warning sticker on the windshield that says any non-BMW phones may cause major damage to the internal electrnics, blah, blah, blah. I know it sounds like such a crock, but I have know one person (Mercedes driver) who had problems that the dealer claims were related to a portable cell phone. My thought would be, if the electronic shielding is so poor that a paltry portable phone fries it, what happens if you are driving and see someone next to you on a portable phone? Oh, I know, next time you get pulled over for doing 95 on the highway tell the cop you saw someone next to you with a portable phone, hopefully you can bore the cop to sleep, and slip away silently. :o) Just my thoughts on the matter. It is very frustrating to have to pay $800 for an analog phone when there are so many digital or dual signal phone deals. Anyone else use portables in their car with any issues arising?
