BMWCCA sponsors drivers' schools at many of the nicest tracks around the country. The Golden Gate Chapter offers one at a new track northwest of the SF Bay area early in February (I think that's the date). In the summer, the LA chapter sponsors a school at Laguna Seca, and in the fall, there's one at Sears Point.

You'll find everything from 325e and 318i models to M1s at these schools, and your "unique" M3 turns out to be a commodity vehicle at a typical school. The instructors are great, and it's a safe way to find out how incredibly far beyond ordinary driving one can push the Bimmer.
