Canadian car importation question. (archive)

Since there are many posts about how cheap cars are in Canada. I'm interested in buying my car in Canada. Do you have to pay the 3% import tariff when bringing BMWs from Canada? Isn't NAFTA based on local content and BMWs have low North American content (not > 50%). What other costs are associated with bringing a car from Canada. What about certification and the EPA. Is the Canadian warranty valid in the US. I can't afford a US 323i, but the Canadian one is within my budget (barely).
