Your dilema sounds so similar to mine, that I
had to post a response...

In 6 months I will have enough saved to get
either the 2.8 A4 or the 323i. The problem,
I love both cars for different reasons:

323i
b/c it's handling is excellent and, I mean,
it's a bimmer!! You gotta love it for that
alone!

A4 2.8qm
I can load up this car a lot more than I could
with a bimmer. And the performance was good
enough for my needs. But, the quattro is what
is really keeping my interest in this car. My
fiancee insists that she will want to drive my
baby in the winter and I've seen too many bimmers
slide across in front of me to be comfortable with
letting her drive it in the winter.

(I know, good snow tires would help tremendously,
but, after driving the bimmer today in our first
noticeable snow, I'm not so sure...)

anyway, Bruce and some of the others are right -
don't worry about what the next owner or the
guy driving next to you thinks - It's not like
your getting ready to buy a Ford or Chevy...Both
of the cars you are choosing between are worhty
of praise.

But, just so you get both sides, you might want
to post your question on the A4 forum at
www.a4.org and see what the audi guys have to say.

Good luck.
