: I'm a little new to the board, but yesterday I was riding on the higway and a maxima got by me. I didn't expect him to want to race and I wasn't prepared. I have an auto 96 328,

Well, racing on the highway isn't a good idea--first there's the issue of cops, and second you should think about possible property damage and bodily injury should things get out of hand.

In straight-line acceleration on the highway, it is all about the car. However, I think that a much better and much more fun contest can be had at an autocross, where the car has less to do with it than a driver. Who would win at an autocross between a Maxima and a E46 comes down more to differences in the skill of the drivers than in the capabilities of the cars.

So, look up your local SCCA chapter and go hunt Maximas at autocrosses. You can get some extra practice at your local BMW CCA autocrosses too.
