we can just buy a $20,000 1999 Camaro Z28 with 300+ horsepower and run 0-60 MPH in low 5's. Even better, a Camaro SS. The Camaro will do better on the skidpad than the Audi and the BMW. How about a Mustang Cobra? 305 hp for $25,000. Decent ride, good handling. 0-60 in 5.4 sec. Even a stock Ford Escort ZX2 will do a 7.1 0-60 run. A $25,000 Integra Type R will do it in 6.6 sec. Precise handling. Point is, very few people buy German sports sedans solely for the purpose of a drag strip time. We buy them because they are the best mix of comfort, style, reliability, and performance. A one second difference in 0-60 times doesn't make or break a car, and a number of cars with "minimal mods" can burn a BMW or an Audi. If I wanted to drag, I'd get a big block engine. But, since that's not my thing, I'll stick with my cars any day.
