In Reply to: And plenty others have clocked 328i at 6.9 secs. posted by Ali B on February 15, 1999 at 15:18:47:

These numbers came from the same issue of C/D, from a comparison test. They got 328i in 6.4 and Audi in 7.4. i just checked another magazine, R&T, however, and they got BMW in 6.6 and A4 in 7.1. So it all comes down to a specific car. But in both cases, the BMW was faster.

i>: If you are inferring that Audi is optimistic about their 0-60 times, BMW seems to be doing the same thing with the new E46 cars. Other than C&D, every other car magazine from Road & Track, AutoWeek, Motor Trend, to CAR magazine from the UK have clocked the 328i at 6.8-6.9 seconds.

: I have driven my brother's 1999 stock 323i, and I don't believe BMW's 7.1 second claim for one second (BTW, neither does my brother, he knows from first hand experience that the A4 2.8Q is quicker than his car). BMW used to be conservative with their performance claims, but competition has done away with that.
