As far as the keys go, each key has a chip in it, to include the plastic key. Lots of car manufactures are using this technology today.
As far as locking the car with the remote. My first question would have to be, why would you want to lock the car with the remote? But if you must, here is how it is done. First, shut the car off, next open and close the driver's door (this simulates someone exiting the vehicle), now lock the car with the remote. At that point, the only way to unlock the car is with the remote, the lock button located in the car should not work and if it does, your's is not working properly. The reason it doesn't work w/o first opening a door is an obvious safety feature.
