You must have been smoking something. I used to own a Ford Probe and the perfornace and handling are no where close to the BMW. Cornering in the 323i is so much smoother and more predictable than the Probe. There is not one area where I would choose the Probe over the BMW, not one.
As for the A4, well my room-mate has a 98 A4 1.8TQ with a chip in it and it hauls. It is a very nice car and very fun to drive, especially in Minnesota where the roads can get ugly. But the A4 still does not handle or corner as well as a E46. It just feels heavy and boxy thru the corners where the E46 is so much smoother. I like my room-mates A4 and may have bought one if he didn't have one already but I love the E46, it is a better car and worth the extra money. I can't wait until mine arrives, the 4 test drives so far since ordering aren't helping anymore!!
