Brake Squeal Service Bulletin (archive)

I've had some brake squeal under city braking, so I called the dealer (had less than 4000 km).

Anyway, they faxed me a service bulletin (34 90 98).

It appears that BMW is now using semi-metalic brake pads that may glaze locally under low temperature braking conditions found in low speed city driving. Brake dust may also get between the pad and the rotor.

There is no fix and no reduction in braking ability. The brake pads will only likely squeal in low temperature conditions until they heat up (it's about 30 degress F here).

Cheers,
Hagen
