Ian,

I drove a 328i that had the matte aluminum trim in Germany last summer, and I honestly think BMW made a mistake when they introduced this stuff.

From the driver's seat, I noticed lots and lots of fingerprints on the trim above the glove box in front of the passenger seat. Seems that everybody who got into the car thought this trim was really original, and decided they'd have to touch it. Those sweaty fingerprints were all over the trim, and were very noticable at an angle (from the driver's seat). What's worse, I tried to polish a section of the trim off, but that wasn't too successful -- not sure if the sweat had already "eaten its way in" to the trim, or what, but it didn't come off 100%.

It can look nice on certain color combos, but unless you can make sure that nobody ever touches the stuff ("hey, neat, what does this feel like?"), I'd advise against it.

Just my opinion.
