Well here is my opinion. I had my E36 318is for 3 years and just traded it in for my new E46 328i that I picked up 2 days ago. My 318is had the sports pkg, my new 328i has only premium pkg.

as far as I can tell, the E46 handles just as well as the E36 does under about 95% of the time. It is slightly soft when you take it to the edge. But my E46 does not have the sports package.

the E46 rides much more comfortably and quietly (again, without loosing the performance edge).

the interior of the E46 is much more refined and comfortable. the E36 was very sparse and cold.

the E46 has the best of both worlds!

: Would any former E36 owners care to share their thoughts on how these two cars are different and the same?

: I have read the reviews, but I am more interested in hearing from people who have lived with an E36. I have yet to find a 328 with sport at a dealer that I can test drive. The car mags say the E46 has lost the edge of the E36, whatever that means.

: I have an E36 now and I really like how tight and responsive the car feels. I am sure someone has covered this before but any insights would be appreciated.

: Thanks.
