The 2001 A4 will be a flop, because the A4 is too important a car for Audi and the designers will be too conservative and risk-averse with the new design. Audi 4000, Audi 80, and they finally got lucky with the A4. They won't get lucky twice.
The TT will bomb because the Beetle 1.8T is $10,000 cheaper and more popular. The TT Concept wasn't even a hit on the auto show circuit, but Audi built it anyway. I predict when C&D does its Audi TT vs. Beetle comparison test, the Beetle 1.8T will be victorious. The A6 and A8 have poor sales and don't stand a chance against the new Mercedes and BMW products. The A3 hatchback won't sell in the US at $20K each, hence Audi never bothered importanting it. A lower price will in VW territory and dilute what little brand equity Audi has in the US.
One car does not make an automotive franchise. When the 2001 A4 flops, Audi will be forced to rename their compact cars again - just like they renamed the Audi 4000 and renamed the Audi 80. History will repeat itself. Audi without the A4 is just like Acura without Integras, one makes expensive VWs, the other makes nicely loaded Hondas.
