I also think that you should keep the original head unit and replace the speakers and perhaps the amps. That way not only do you keep the original dash appearance, but you also keep your steering wheel remote controls for your stereo. If you get an aftermarket head unit you won't be able to use the steering wheel controls with it. If you still wan't to explore your options call Crutchfield at 1-888-955-6000, they may be able to give you the information you need.
