The metal plate that you see through the opening has nothing to do with the wire. In my case, the wire was hiding way off to the right (passenger side). I pulled on the roof cover and managed to get my finders in the opening and searched each side. I was able to reach the wire with my fingers.
Try to pull gentrly so you won't damage the interior. You may want to ask someone with thin fingers to help you (wife, girlfriend) or try to use some kind of hook (I would use plastic, not metal).
The wire istelf was wrapped in storage tape, the same way as those for the siren or tilt detector.
