thanks john i appreciate it. i'll have to agree to disagree about the relative looks of the new jetta and the a4, but your point is well taken. however, at this time the jetta doesn't have quattro, which is pretty much my whole reason for choosing Audi in the first place.

: Would you be bummed that you couldn't get the A4 2.8 and had to settle for the 1.8T? Remember the smaller BMW engine is only .5 seconds slower than the 2.8L. It's infinitely cheaper to buy than the 2.8L, but costs BMW exactly the same to make. This is a great bargain compared to past BMW pricing. I thank the Audi competition for this new pricing structure.

: The 1.8T engine costs VW much less to make than its V6. That's why it's going in the 2000 Golf and Jetta. Does it bother you that a guy in a $17,000 Golf has your exact same engine? I'm not partial to Audis or VWs, but I have to admit the Jetta/Bora is a great looking car. I would gladly choose a $17,000 Jetta with the 1.8T over the $25,000 Audi 1.8T. If you think the Audi nameplate is worth $8,000 more than a VW (IMHO the Jetta is a much better looking car than the A4), you'll get killed when it comes time for resale.
: Also the Jetta gets features not found in the A4 like rain-sensing wipers and wood trim.

: VW has a really messed-up product placement strategy now. With Audi, they have about 6 similar models priced in the $20K range, all competing with each other for the same demographic buyer. Audi doesn't have enough prestige to differentiate itself too much from a VW on the same platform. The only thing left is Quattro, but VWs will get 4Motion. No wonder VW would love to buy BMW.

: My advice would be to get the 323i or wait for the Jetta 1.8T.

:
: : A few questions if you guys don't mind, i've pretty much had my heart set on a 1.8t, but i can't deny the 3 series.
: : 1) What is the real price of a 323i w/ sport package
: : 2) Any way to reasonably increase performance with bolt on mods
: : 3) Would i be bummed that i couldn't get a 328i and had to settle for the 2.5l?

: : Thnaks in advance
