I guess I must drive "lightly"? since I've always averaged higher then epa estimates for both city and highway. typically 2 to 3 mpg better then epa estimates.
I paid $3.58 per quart for the mobil 1 including local sales tax (MA 5% sales tax). I looked into buying the BMW synthetic but it was $7/qt at the local dealer. although it's $3.50/qt at either
bmwstore or circle bmw or quality imports (forgot which one), they also charge shipping on top of that which I think will bring it to $4 or more per quart, that's why I decided to go with mobil 1, since it's cheaper and is bmw approved.
I guess I have to learn to live with the high filter costs. I sure miss the days of $0.99 filters (GM products)
I will let you know how my oil change goes this weekend when I do it. I don't think it will be too difficult, probably take 20 mins or so like my 318 did.
: It'll be 3 weeks for me tomorrow Jack. (only 1000miles.) I'd be happy if I got that mileage. I get about 18/21/25 (city/mix/highway) with a manual transmission, according to the trip computer. (Granted, I have a heavy right foot.) I'm not complaining, because it's better mileage than my 4cyl. Jetta got. I tend to think that EPA mileage tends to be high. I'd check to see what Consumers Reports got for the 323 and compare it to the 323 EPA numbers.
: As far as the filter goes, the cheapest I've seen it for is $7.50. I didn't ask Quality Imports how much they're asking, but with shipping, it'll probably be the same as local retail. It couldn't hurt to give them a call. Also, how much did you spend(pre quart) on the Mobil? Make sure to give us a report on how the oil change goes.
