I have a 96 328i and do not notice any difference between the auto tranny in my car and that in others. Are you used to driving an auto? I do know that some of the 4 bangers, like the honda and Camry do react faster and are more sensitive to the pedal than the BMW. Maybe you need to be a little more agressive and step on it a little harder at first when starting from a stop.

Other than that, it may indicate a problem with the transmission not engaging the engine properly. If not properly adjusted it could be slipping more than normal.

Rick
