: Jay,

: I, too, am planning on ordering the black leather interior on a 323i. I have seen the black trim in person and I like it. I don't care for the two-tone dashes that come with the gray and sand interiors, just my opinion - no flames please. For me, the wood did not seem worth $500. I am wondering though, how both the wood and the shiny black trim are going to hold up around the gearshift in the long run. I think the chrome would be better over time, too bad it isn't an option on the 323. Good luck on your decision.

I have the black leather option on my Titanium Silver 323i. The total list price with all the options I ordered was over $34,000 and I just didn't feel I wanted to go any higher so opted, reluctantly, to live with the black plastic trim.

Strange thing, even though I was prepared to dislike it, I think it looks better than the wood trim. The wood trim, in my opinion, looks a little pretentious (no flames please, wood lovers) and out of place on a high-tech car like the Bimmer. I think the black plastic provides a nice contrast in color and texture to the rest of the interior. I'm very happy with it, and haven't found any problem with scratches or other marks near the gearshift or on the dash.
