Ordering/Prices 1999 323i Sedan (archive)

I am Shopping for a 323i sedan and Live In the Minneapolis Saint Paul, Mn Metro. We have two dealers one told me that they would discount the vehicle if ordered only $500 below suggested retail price. The other dealer said $500 to $1000 below retail depending on the time of year.

Are they unreasonable? Will they give me a better price when I actually sign an order?
Thanks for any advice. I will order in three weeks after the auto show.
