I have scraped the underside of the car over a tall irregular speed bump. Being a rear wheel drive car, the front wheels of the E46 can be placed farther foward on the chassis. There really isn't much danger in scraping the air dam. The A4's front wheels are set farther back, being a FWD car. There is more overhang in front of the wheels. In the recent review of sports sedans by R&T, it states that the 328 has shortest body, but second longest wheelbase. Basically means you'll ground between the wheels. Just watch for tall speedbumps.
