I have the nav system in my '99 328i and I love it. it is definately worth the $1700 price. It has more then paid for itself in the numerous times it has helped me out (I travel a lot).

It is a factory installed option, fully integrated into the dash and on board computer/radio. You can also get a dealer installed option, but the dealer installed one costs over $2k and is not integrated into the dash. (you have extra monitor/control haining onto the front/side of your dash).

It doesn't take any longer to get a car with nav as opposed to one without. Both have to be ordered from the factory unless there is already a car sitting on the dealer's lot that has the exact same options you want.

I would say if you can afford it, and travel a lot then yes, go get it. If yo don't travel much, or don't like gadgets/toys then don't spend the $$ on it.

: Anyone tried out the BMW navigation system? I sometimes drive a friend's Lexus GS300 with builtin navigation system and I find it very useful. Is it worth the $1700? Is is factory or dealer installed? How difficult would it be to get a car with it?
