A friend and I did the Drive in Sacramento, CA. a few months ago. It was for a good cause and we got to drive a mix of models: a 318ti (w/ that funky sliding canvas roof); an E46 328i; a Z3 (I was looking for an M Roadster or Coupe myself) ; and a 540i. I got the feeling that if there had been a bigger crowd while we were there that we wouldn't have been able to drive so many cars. In addition, we did take a couple of them out a few times. For the cause of course! There's no salesman or anyone else with you as you drive a pre-set 7.5 or so route on a map in the car. You can take drive them as you see fit. The 540i was sweet at speed. I apologize to anyone who likes them, but the 318ti was such a slug I didn't see the point to it. At the end they had a 5-series wagon that the drivers sign. It was very cool to see how crowded the names were. I hope they needed to get several additional signing wagons. All in all a very nice experience that benefited others. A definite thumb's up!
